Zones in the Ocean
There are three main zones in the ocean: light zone, habitat zone, and lifestyle zone.
Light zone- It is where there is visible light underwater that penetrated the water. The amount of light in the water varies as you go deeper in water.
Aphotic zone- No light can go deep to this zone. Deep sea plants and animals go here to eat off dead organisms that sink here.
Disphotic zone- Light can reach here but it is still dark enough where animals can hide and no plant really grows here.
Photic zone- Normal amounts of light can penetrate here. The bottom of the zone varies in the amount of activity of small creatures are doing.
Euphotic zone- It is bright enough here to where underwater photosynthesis can happen.
Habitat zone- These zones are based off of water depth
Hadal zone- It is where trenches and subduction zones are located
Abyssal zone- It is the flat muddy plains that are underwater. One half of earth is in the abyssal zone
Bathyal zone- It is the steading dipping continental slope
Neritic zone- The shallow water above the continental slope
Oceanic zone- Is the open ocean water. The amount of organisms vary in depth of water
Lifestyle zone- Zones based off of the marine organisms that live
Nektonic- organisms that can propel to move themselves in water like fish
Plankton- Are small floating single celled organisms that live in sunlight zones
Epifaunal- Plants and animals that live on the sea bottom
Infaunal- Creatures that go under the sea bottom and live there.
