This lab we acted as if we are a team of geologists trying to find oil.
First off we had to calculate the densities of rock based off of the speed of sound it goes through. We learned that density of oil is lower than the rock surrounding it. So we had to find that pocket of the grid point.
We had information saying that oil is about 900 kg/m^3 dense so finding a grid point close to that number could mean that there's oil there.
After estimating where the oil could be we did the lab. We were limited to the number of times we could check a grid point so we had to be certain on which grid point could have the oil.
We tried 3 times before we got the oil and it cost us about $675,000 realisticly. In total the whole cost of the drilling was realisticly about $1.2 million.
What we got from the operation was only $928,000 so we did get a lost on this one, but we did better compared to the other teams.
